Why Everything Feels So Heavy After Loss
Lately, it feels like a lot is coming at us.
The world. The noise. Constant stimulation. The pressure we put on ourselves. The never-ending mental to-do list running in the background.
And sometimes, on top of all of that, life has already taken something from you. Or shifted you in ways you didn’t ask for.
After loss or a major life change, even the simplest things can start to feel heavy and overwhelming.
You might want to move forward. You might even know you need to make a decision.
And yet somehow, choosing what to make for dinner, answering an email, or deciding what comes next feels exhausting before you even start.
And then the self-talk and judgment kicks in.
Why can’t I decide?
Why does everything feel so hard?
What is wrong with me?
Here’s the thing. When you’re already carrying grief, uncertainty, identity shifts, stress, or just a lot of life, everything takes more energy. Not because you’re failing. Not because you’re doing something wrong.
But because your system is already working overtime.
And if you’re already in something hard, a loss, a big shift, a challenge, this stuff stacks on top of it.
Even the smallest decisions can start to feel like too much.
That’s also why pressure doesn’t help.
Being told to “move forward,” “figure it out,” or “just decide” usually makes it worse. More pressure doesn’t create clarity. It just adds weight.
Sometimes the most supportive thing isn’t forcing a decision or pushing yourself to act.
It’s easing the load first.
That’s what I talk about more in a short video I shared this week.
